Back around early-1999, I discovered that I was able to watch weekly tapings of WCW Nitro and WCW Thunder on free TV. Nitro aired live on Monday nights in the USA, but we had to wait until Friday Night (iirc) to watch Nitro, and Thunder, here in England. I was happy to be able to watch WCW for the first time, and I soon became a big fan of Rey Mysterio (then called ‘Rey Mysterio Jr’, which I think is a much better name than just ‘Rey Mysterio’). 14-year-old me would be alone in the living room, just loving every minute of WCW programming. Rey was so exhilarating to watch, spinny moves and all. When his music hit, I felt so excited, I really did, because his matches were the best. Even though WWF were kicking WCW’s butt in the ratings at this point, and WCW was a sinking ship, WWF didn’t have anyone like Rey. Not until 2002, anyway, when Mysterio joined them as a free agent.
I know Rey is/was IYO SKY’s favorite wrestler. I wonder if she watched him on Nitro/Thunder in 1999 like I did.
