Circa the 2nd of December 1991, in San Antonio, Texas, the Rockers split up with Shawn Michaels attacking Marty Jannetty. This happened on the infamous WWF ‘barber shop’ segment, and aired on TV for the first time on WWF Challenge around 40 days later on 12 Jan 1992. At the time I was 7 years old, and, at this point in time, Marty Jannetty was actually my favorite wrestler. I actually remember being 7 years old and seeing this barber shop segment at home, on TV. I was absolutely mortified – very very sad indeed, and pissed at Shawn. Marty and Shawn then faced each other in a match at Royal Rumble 1992 later that month. Unfortunately, Shawn won. After all this, I stopped watching wrestling for about 7 years. At some point, probably around 2020 or so, I was watching a documentary that stated that it was actually necessary for the Rockers to break up at that point (early ’92), because Marty and Shawn were (non-kayfabe) not getting along behind-the-scenes, or something along those lines. I haven’t seen any Marty Jannetty matches since the Rockers broke up, but I really hope that he (Marty) is in good health, because I hold him in very high esteem.
