Mercedes Monè returned last night, making a surprise return as the ‘wild card’ in a Women’s Owen Hart Cup tournament match on AEW Dynamite. She got a big pop when she made her entrance. I’m assuming Mercedes will be a babyface for the time being, as she has been a heel thus far since joining AEW.
A few years ago, I was watching a random video on YouTube, which, iirc, featured Mercedes back when she was in WWE. This was not a segment on a WWE show, but she was being filmed and she was, iirc, holding some A4 notebooks in her hand. Mercedes (Sasha) said something along the lines of ‘when I was a kid, I used to watch WWE, and I would write down the matches which took place on the WWE shows’. The reason I am bringing this up, is because I remember, circa early 2000, when I was 15 years of age, I would do the exact same thing. I would watch WWF shows on a Saturday/Sunday, such as SmackDown, and minor shows (which would provide highlights from Raw and Smackdown, as well as showing some SmackDown/Raw pre-show matches) such as WWF Superstars, WWF Metal, And WWF Heat (we couldn’t afford Sky Sports channels which would let us watch full WWF Raw episodes) – and I would write down what matches had happened that week on WWF’s shows. I wouldn’t write down what happened in the match, but, rather, I would just write down what matches had taken place. I did not have a PC/laptop, or the internet, at the time, so pen and paper was the way to go for me back then (around early 2000). I did this for only a month or two, before something bad happened and I left the house I was staying in (which I do not wish to elaborate on). I did this to keep some kind of ledger of the matches which had taken place. I was obsessed with WWF at this point in time, and it (WWF) was white-hot in terms of popularity and the quality of the product it was producing. So, a few years ago, when I saw this Sasha Banks segment on YouTube, I was pretty amazed that she used to do this also, as I did not expect to ever hear of anyone doing the same thing, and she is the first person I have found in this regard. There is a chance that I may have misinterpreted what Mercedes said in the aforementioned WWE segment, but I am pretty sure that that is what she said.
